Party Game Central
Party Game Central

A card game where you try to acquire four of a kind and try not to be the player without a spoon at the end.

Game type:

Active. A lot of movement may be required.

3 or more players but not more than 10

Deck of cards and enough spoons for all the player less one (If you have eight players you'll need seven spoons)

Players should sit in a circle on the floor or around a table. They should be able to sit close enough to be within reaching distance of the spoons in the middle.

Four cards are dealt face down to each player. The remainder of the cards stay in a pile face down next to the dealer. The responsibility of dealing the cards can rotate around the circle or table

The round begins by each player picking a card from their hand and preparing to pass it to the left. It is important that each player pass their card to the next player at the same time. The dealer can assist this by calling "Pass" or by chanting a rhythm such as "1-2-3-Pass 1-2-3 Pass" etc. After each player as received their card, they must make a decision about what to keep and what to pass. The object is to get 4 of a kind of any card. The dealer continues to draw cards from the draw pile and the person to the right of the dealer should discard the extra cards into a discard pile. If the dealer runs out of cards in the draw pile, play can stop temporarily and the discard pile can be moved next to the dealer to become another draw pile.

When a player get 4 of a kind they take a spoon from the middle. This can be done in a sneaky way or in plain sight of everyone. You choose. However, once a player has removed one of the spoons all players can grab a spoon as fast a possible. There is usually a lot of commotion and flying hands while this happens. After the dust settles, one player will be left without a spoon. They then are assigned a letter of the word S-P-O-O-N-S. A player who looses the round starts with an 'S'. Then next time the same player looses, they will get a 'P' and so on until they have all six letters. When this happens they are out. Some groups will sing "happy trails to you" or some silly song to bid the player farewell from the game. Each time a player leaves the game, a spoon is removed as well and play continues until only one player is left.
